The Sun warms oceans, lakes, and puddles. Some of that water turns into an invisible gas called water vapour and floats up into the sky.

Condensation: clouds form

High up, the air is cold. The vapour cools and turns back into tiny droplets that gather together — that’s what a cloud actually is.

Precipitation: it comes back down
